How Platelets are Formed, Platelet's Low Causes

Platelets are tiny cells that circulate in the blood and whose role is to participate in the clotting process. Inside each platelet are many granules that contain compounds that enhance the ability of platelets to adhere to each other and also to the surface of a damaged blood vessel wall.

Platelet Formation Fragmentation of bone marrow cells known as megakaryocytes produces platelets. Each megakaryocyte cell produces 5,000 to 10,000 platelets. Platelet has a lifespan of 5 to 9 days, and a normal human adult produces 1×1011 platelet every day. Additional or reserve platelet are stored in the spleen and released at the time of need. Phagocytes and Kupffer cells destroy old platelet, allowing new ones to take their place.

Platelet function: Platelets are small cells that circulate in the blood and whose function is to participate in the coagulation process. Inside each platelet are many granules that contain compounds that enhance the ability of platelets to adhere to each other and also to the surface of a damaged blood vessel wall.

Platelet Level

The platelet count in circulating blood is normally between 150 and 400 million per milliliter of blood. Newborn babies have a slightly lower level but are normally within the adult range within three months.

Platelet Low Causes

There are three main types of cells in your blood; white cells, red cells, and platelets. They help the blood to clot so that heavy bleeding does not occur when you cut or hurt yourself. When there is not enough platelet in the blood, you may bruise or bleed easily.

  3. H.Pylori
  4.  Hepatitis B & C
